Nursery and Reception

Newsletter

17th  July

Following on from our visit from the Ferrel Circus, the children have been busy producing their own circus acts.  The children have particularly enjoyed pretending to be clowns.

The Reception children have been talking about things which live under the sea and have been making their own fish – some of which have turned into kites!

To help with transition into Year One, the Reception children have been having a morning playtime with the rest of the school and those with packed lunches have been eating their lunch outside with the older children.

Reception

The Reception children will be continuing to read and write using sounds they know and writing captions, sentences and stories.  They will be working with numbers to 20 – finding 1 more and 1 less than a number and solving addition and subtraction problems.

Nursery

Nursery children - please can we remind you that things brought in from home for the Special Box need to begin with the sound of the week.  Next week the sound of the week will be ‘l’.

Ideas to explore at home

Can the children tell you which number is 1 more than or 1 less than a number?

Please continue to practise your sounds and words – little and often.  Please record this in their reading record books.

Nursery

Sequence the story.  Can your child predict what might happen at the end of a story?

Practical number problem solving when you are out and about, eg looking for numbers on the way to school – on house doors, number plates, signs, etc.

Play ‘I spy’ with our sound of the week ‘l’.

Can the children find anything to bring in that begins with the sound ‘l’?

3oth June

This week a circus came to our school!  The children were very excited when they got to see the big top put up and are looking forward to seeing the circus show at the weekend.  We had our school assembly in the big top on Thursday, so we got to see some of the acts which would be happening at the weekend.

On Tuesday we had our sports day.  All the children got involved and enjoyed participating in the events.

The children have been listening to stories with a pirate theme this week.  They got to make their own pirate hat and telescope.

.

Next Week

The Reception children will be continuing to read and write using sounds they know and writing captions, sentences and stories.  They will be working with numbers to 20 – finding 1 more and 1 less than a number and solving addition and subtraction problems.

Nursery children - please can we remind you that things brought in from home for the Special Box need to begin with the sound of the week.  Next week the sound of the week will be ‘k’.

Please remember the Reception children do not need to bring anything in for the sound of the week but please continue to bring in special news books to share with the rest of the class.
