Ludham Primary School and Nursery
MODERN BRITISH VALUES
Ludham Primary School and Nursery promotes the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
We promote and reinforce these values in the following ways:
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
Rule of Law
Democracy is embedded in our school. Children are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully to each other, respecting the rights and opinions of every individual.
Children have opportunities to voice their opinions through Circle Time and School Council meetings. The election of the School Council is based on the children’s votes and reflects our British electoral system and shows democracy in action.
The Rule of Law:
At our school, we talk about the importance of laws, whether they are related to class, school or the country. Each class discusses and agrees their own rules which are clearly understood by all. The children are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken. Our local PSCO visits the school regularly as part of the children’s learning.
We encourage the children to make choices within a safe, supportive and caring environment. We educate and provide boundaries for our children to make choices safely. The children are encouraged to understand the importance of being able to exercise their rights and personal freedoms safely and they are often given the freedom to make choices. Examples of this may be choice about how they present or record a piece of work, the type of challenge they choose to complete within a lesson, or which clubs they might choose to join.
